Bink and Gollie
by Kate DiCamillo and Alison McGhee, illus. by Tony Fucile
Your youngster will see him- or herself as Bink or Gollie, two friends who are opposite in every way. They’re both tomboyish. They do have that in common. But Gollie is tall. Bink is short. Gollie’s brown hair is long and straight. Bink’s blond hair is short and spiky. Three brief stories depict Bink’s fascination with striped socks, Gollie’s longing for adventure, and how together they save a goldfish named Fred. The comical illustrations play up the girls’ differences in fabulous ways, as when Bink holds up Fred’s fish bowl in the movie theater, so he can see the show, too.
