The Baby Goes Beep
by Rebecca O’Connell, illus. by Ken Wilson-Max

Oh joy! Another board book for the backseat library – or the nursery, or anywhere at all. You do not want to be without this one.

“The baby goes Beep” says the text, as Ken Wilson-Max’s boldly outlined portrait of baby shows him or her strapped into a car seat, holding a plastic wheel. On the opposite page, baby, dressed in ruby red, “honks” Daddy’s nose like a horn: “The baby goes Beep Beep Beep Beep.” The text follows this pattern again and again. You will be pleased to know that Wilson-Max demonstrates the “Boom Boom Boom Boom” traditionally associated with drum-like noisemakers instead with paper towels and a wooden spoon. O’Connell and Wilson-Max similarly demonstrate stellar behavior with a bowl of spinach (“The baby goes Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum”), only to have baby “Splash” it across the high chair on the next page, leading to a bath (“Splash Splash Splash Splash”). This sweet tale closes with a “Smooch” and a “Shh,” and only Teddy bear’s eyes are wide. Baby is fast asleep. Your baby will love the interactive games and the delectable sounds this sturdy board book initiates. First published in 2003, we are delighted to have this gleeful book back on the shelves!
