Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed
by Eileen Christelow

This classic rhyme gets a fresh makeover with Eileen Christelow’s loose line, warm palette and a fun twist (involving the patient mother) at the end. The five monkey stars make the perfect messengers for a story of shenanigans with consequences.

This sturdy board book begins at bedtime. Five little monkeys take a bath, put on their pajamas, brush their teeth and say good night to their mama. “Then... five little monkeys jumped on the bed!” Their patterned nightclothes set them apart as they bounce, do handstands and dance on the mattress until… “one fell off and bumped his head. The mama called the doctor. The doctor said, ‘No more monkeys jumping on the bed!’” Of course the monkey siblings do not learn by example. Four little monkeys jump on the bed, and on the countdown goes until they all have a bandage on their noggins.

Children will chime in for the repetitive lines and laugh at the ending, in which their mama, with all five of her monkeys finally sleeping soundly, gets to have some fun of her own.
