La Madre Goose: Nursery Rhymes for Los Ninos
by Susan Middleton Elya, illus. by Juana Martinez-Neal

This is one of the best bilingual books I have ever seen! Whether you are serious about your child learning Spanish, or whether you just want to introduce the language in a fun way, La Madre Goose: Nursery Rhymes for Los Ninos is the perfect book to incorporate Spanish into your child’s life. The three little kittens who lost their mittens become the three little gatitos who lost their mitoncitos. Susan Middleton Elya gives Mother Goose a makeover, accompanied by Juana Martinez-Neal’s incredible soft-pastel illustrations that look like they belong on the walls of a nursery. Familiar rhymes are revisited by incorporating Spanish into the text, and with a glossary of pronunciation, the text is friendly and easy to read.

I will leave you with a small sampling of one of the rhymes found in La Madre Goose:

Twinkle, Twinkle, Small Estrella

Twinkle, twinkle, small estrella,

how I wonder why you’re bella.

Shining high, you’re so vibrante,

in the sky un diamante.

Twinkle, twinkle, small estrella,

how I wonder why you’re bella.
